Sunday Brunch at St.Elmo's

Surprisingly, Sunday is becoming our best day of the week after we decided to have a brunch every weekend.  St. Elmos is a brasserie that offers a brunch menu with live entertainment on Sundays.
We loved St. Elmos before even trying it because it's located in our favorite place Zaitouna Bay where you can eat and then have a walk to enjoy the seaside but mostly to burn the calories.
St. Elmos has a unique interior with maritime decor and ambiance. The exterior is charming as well, especially when it's a sunny day.
• We started our brunch with cream cheese bagel with salmon add on served with fries on the side. It was so delicious as the salmon was extremely fresh and the bagel was filled with a generous amount of cream cheese that gave the platter a smooth and rich texture. The lemon slices added some sourness that balanced the whole flavor. The fries that accompanied the bagel were so yummy since they were very crispy and not oily. We simply adored this dish.

• Our second item was the Turkey and Cheese Club and it was excellent! It contained layers of smoked turkey, Swiss cheese, pickles, tomatoes and lettuce on soft country bread. The turkey and the cheese quality were superior, the bread was so fluffy and the vegetables gave it a light taste.

• Whenever we see the Eggs Benedict on the menu we can't but have one. It consisted of 2 poached eggs topped with spinach, Swiss cheese, hollandaise sauce and we also added salmon to enrich it with more proteins. The result was good but we expected it to be mich better compared to the bagel. An aroma of spices and flavor was missing. They did not master the combination of the eggs with the salmon.

To add relish to our sweet tooth, we ended our brunch with the French Toast. It is similar to the pain perdu except the fact that the bread comes cold and not freshly baked. It is served with caramel sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was very luscious although it was not freshly baked since the bread was very juicy and had a pinch of cinnamon.
Sunday wasn't boring at all at St.Elmo's specifically when the live Band Jlp took the stage and amused us with our all time favorite songs. The crowd couldn't but sing with them and request more tunes. Our time was well invested at St.Elmo's.

Snoopy is Back, In Cinemas Today.

Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of the famous "Peanuts" gang make their first appearance in Cinemas in The Peanuts Movie. Charlie Brown embarks upon a quest which is to gain the love and appreciation of a new neighbor and school mate; the redheaded girl. In the meantime, his best pal Snoopy is on another mission of saving the love of his life Fifi from the so called the Red Baron.

The movie is so funny and very enjoyable not only by kids but also by adults as we laughed in multiple circumstances. We will end up taking a moral lesson: each and every one of us has a thing that makes him special and beautiful for someone else no matter how many negative traits he has.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Cinemas Today

Star Wars fans will get a treat this season since the seventh installment The Force Awakens opens today in cinemas. This was the first series we watched and we were pretty impressed by how good it was and sad at the same time that we did not catch up the previous ones.  The all time favorite cast of Star wars returns with Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, and everyone’s favorite Chewbacca.  J.J Abrams direction was out of this world as he kept the classical golden legacy of the previous movies and added his own creative breath that was able to impress and higher the bar. If your movie buddy wants to drag you to watch Star Wars don't resist as it will be pure entertainment even if you are new to this epic space opera franchise.

Dining at Metropole in Downtown Beirut

Valentine is near so we started going to cozy romantic places to prepare a restaurant list to make it easier for you to choose a location for the 14th of February. Our recent visit was to Metropole, a brasserie in Downtown Mina el Hosn, next to the Four Seasons hotel.
The restaurant has a beautiful terrace with little fire chimneys to keep you warm and comfortable plus a spacious vintage interior with red leather sofas, wooden walls, dim lights and classical Christmas songs playing in the background.

The menu is typically french including salads, appetizers, steaks, moules, a hamburger, many other main platters and of course a big selection of desserts.

• We started with the Chicken Caesar salad. It was very delicious and refreshing. It contained thin slices of chicken, croutons and shaved Parmesan on a bed of Iceberg lettuce with a Caesar sauce. The lettuce slices were extremely fresh, the chicken slices were perfectly marinated and cooked till crispiness and the parmesan had a great quality. We would have preferred if the sauce was a little bit more as well as the croutons. Other than that we loved the salad.
• As main platters we had the Gourmet Hamburger. It was not up to the standards of Metropole, it was more of a Lebanese style burger with ketchup, onions, lettuce and tomatoes. The patty was thick and juicy but tasteless, the bun was very good but the big amount of ketchup spread on it made it loose its deliciousness. The fries that accompanied the burger were amazing since they were very crispy and not oily.

A French restaurant is the perfect place to have desserts, especially the pain perdu or Bread Pudding as they name it.
It was good but not the best we had. The bread seemed very dry as if it needed more butter or something that makes it juicier. It was also tasteless. We only felt the caramel sauce and the vanilla ice cream that made it enjoyable. Balthazar remains the best restaurant in terms of Pain Perdu.

We enjoyed our experience at Metrople although we expected more from the food and the service.

The Second Lady In Cinemas this Thursdasy

Maguy Bou Ghosn was able to do a big leap from her comedy roles that we got used to in her last 2 movies(Bebe&Vitamin) to some serious drama acting in her latest movie The Second Lady (السيدة الثانية)
The movie talks about Dahab, a poor woman who is trying to find a job in order to escape the misery that she is in and to find a better future for her and all her neighbors. Luck becomes her best friend when she ends up working for the most powerful man in the country, the President.
The Second Lady is a light drama/comedy portraying the major problems that Lebanon is facing but in a clever way. Those problems don't evolve around love, beauty and cars as we see on TV.

The actors exceeded in their roles and they were very fresh and convincing in front of the camera.
We have to praise the incredible comic ability of Khitam Al Lahham (Massika) who made us laugh each time she was on screen. The plot starts a bit slow and it takes around 40 minutes to feel the beginning of the story but then it all goes quickly. The direction was phenomenal especially the bright and vivid colors of the camera.

Maguy Bou Ghosn won't stop impressing us year after year with her very enjoyable movies that carry a special message each time.

The Opening of Sapa a Peruvian restaurant and cocktail Bar in Ashrafieh

You don't have to compromise good food when it comes to bars because at Sapa you can have good food and refreshing cocktails all in a unique location. Sapa, a Peruvian restaurant and cocktail bar, is the newest restaurant in Beirut that you don't want to miss.
It is the perfect place for yummy yet healthy appetizers with some refreshing cocktails in a cozy and relaxing ambiance. The owners are 2 sisters who traveled a full month to Peru so that they bring us some finger licking good traditional Peruvian food items.

The exterior of the restaurant is charming and filled with positive vibes as well as the interior with its dim lights and warm colors. Make sure to notice the beautiful negatives of the older state of the restaurant before its renovation; they are really worth seeing them and they reflect the attention given to the smallest detail.

We tried some of their food and we were very impressed with the delicious mini burgers, the exceptional crispy chicken tenders, the tasty crab taco cones and seafood mussel cocktail. Not to forget the very light and healthy options such as the goat cheese on endives and the vegetable rolls.

We loved Sapa and we left with positive vibes and happy tummy. We will pay them a visit very soon.

Brunch at Memory Lane in Mar Mikhael

Breakfast is the most important meal in the day and we always skip it during our busy weekdays but that should not be the case on the weekends since it can boost you with energy for the upcoming week.  We are becoming fans of weekend brunches since it's the perfect plan for a lazy relaxing morning.
We recently tried Memory Lane, a cozy restaurant in Mar Mikhael. It is huge and each part has a different ambiance from the coffee area to the refreshing dining room and the bar. The place is perfectly enlightened thanks to the glassed ceiling which made the restaurant full of positive vibes.
• We started our brunch with the Charcuterie platter served with a bread basket. The cold cuts consist of salami, ham and chorizo with pickles. They were very fresh and the bread was also very enjoyable especially the gressini.
• Then we passed to the traditional Lebanese breakfast that consisted of a variety of kaak and a Lebanese platter.
* We tried the Halloumi kaak which was very tasty and generously filled. The halloum were melted and the vegetables used were very fresh.

* The kaaket Labneh contained the same ingredients as the halloumi. The labneh gave it a sour taste that we preferred over the halloumi.
* The Lebanese platter contained 5 grilled halloum slices, a labneh platter, a toasted kaaké cut into 4, olives, cucumber and zaatar salad. It was our favorite as you can make your own bites.

As main dishes we had an omelette and scrambled eggs.

• The first Omelette was not good as it was served watery. We then asked for it to be well done. The omelette contained mozzarella, cheddar cheese and tomato cubes and it was served with toast and green salads.
• The scrambled eggs were very good. They were well cooked with a consistent butter taste. We always add pepper so don't forget to ask for it. They were served with toast bread, green salad and a sausage.
Even a brunch is not complete without desserts. Some were healthy like the fruit & granola but they could not fulfill us! Nutella crêpes and pastries were a must.
• The crêpes dough was crispy, we honestly would have preferred if it contained more chocolate. One of them had strawberries and the other bananas.
• From the etc pastries, we got the chance to try the Lotus cake (with lotus biscuit) and the Banana Caramel Tart.
* The Lotus Cake was orgasmic! We will be visiting Memory Lane to rejoice with this piece of art! We adored it.
* The Banana Caramel tart was our piece of joy since it contained the tart crust, banana topping and caramel; our favorite items.
• The fruit salad & granola was our all time favorite morning dessert. It consisted of fresh sliced fruits with a cup of fresh yogurt and honey to mix with the granola. The result was perfection.

We accompanied our brunch with hot beverages and juices. The café latte was very creamy and delicious but they add cinnamon on top so if you are not fans of cinnamon, mention it to the waiter because they don't ask you before. The orange juice was very fresh. They also have some detox drinks.
We loved the after effect of the brunch. It made us happy and we ended doing more things during the day that we normally don't have the energy to do.
